Image distortion by gravitational lensing

Gunn's (1967) phase-function treatment of the shear of a light-wave bundle is applied to a spherically symmetric matrix, and a formula for astrophysical applications based on first-order general relativity is provided. It is assumed that the metric is spherically symmetric and stationary.
