Elastic Stability of Flexibly Connected Frames

Most stability analyses of building frames are based on the assumption that the beams and columns are rigidly connected. However, many beam-to-column connections exhibit nonrigid, flexible behavior. This paper presents a method for modifying the stability analysis for flexibly-connected frames. The...

Zusammenfassung:Most stability analyses of building frames are based on the assumption that the beams and columns are rigidly connected. However, many beam-to-column connections exhibit nonrigid, flexible behavior. This paper presents a method for modifying the stability analysis for flexibly-connected frames. The procedure is demonstrated for a simple portal frame, and observations are made on the effects of connection stiffness on frame buckling capacity.
