Correlation of erosion with mechanical properties in metals

A method of correlating the erosion behavior of metals with pertinent mechanical properties is described. The work done/unit volume ( Delta W) during tensile deformation was correlated with volume erosion data for a variety of annealed metals (Al 1100, Cu, Fe, Mo). Data scatter was found to be comparable to that for correlations based on thermal parameters, although the scatter might have been reduced by the use of mechanical properties measured at the appropriate dynamic strain rate. 12 ref.--G.P.K.
