One-dimensional shock waves in uniformly distributed granular materials

Zusammenfassung:Using a one-dimensional model for uniformly distributed granular solids, it is shown that the discontinuity in the porosity must be second order across a shock wave. This result implies that the Hugoniol properties of shock waves and their growth and decay behavior are qualitatively similar to those for homogeneous nonlinear elastic solids, but are quantitatively influenced by the initial porosity.
