Zusammenfassung: | Synopsis
The permeability of concrete to cryogenicfluids, in the context of the use of concrete for storage of liquefied gases, has received very scant attention, in comparison with mechanical properties. A series of preliminary tests on concrete specimens, employing liquid nitrogen as the permeating fluid, is presented here. The tests were carried out by means of a rig specially developed for the purpose, a major feature of which is an effective method of sealing the specimen under cryogenic conditions. Results obtained indicate that mechanismsgoverning the permeability of concrete at cryogenic temperatures differ substantially from those prevailing at ambient conditions. Aggregate and aggregate-paste interaction, in particular, play a major role. |
