The fast 50

Winners of Fast Company's fourth annual Fast 50 awards are presented. Every one of them is an innovator, dreamer and doer. A brief profile of all the winners is presented. For example, Michael Van Valkenburgh of Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates Inc, won the difficult assignment of redoing the two blocks of Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House as a public space while still maintaining security. Van Walkenburgh focused on restoring dignity to the street, with three types of granite as the surface, retractable metal bollards and 100 American elms lining the walkways. Dwight Aspinwall, co-founder and president of Jetboil Inc, won for his Jetboil personal cooking system - a propane-powered mug that can boil water in 60 seconds.
