Zusammenfassung:The reactivity of zinc oxide fume with sulfur dioxide in air is studied to determine its dependence on so 2 concentration, temperature, and humidity. Sharp increases in the reactivity occurs at humidity levels corresponding to the equilibrium phase transition of zinc oxide to zinc hydroxide. The reaction is limited by diffusion of water vapor through the sulfite product layer.
