Possible Approaches to Regulation of Animal Biotechnology

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is considering to what extent it should regulate the animal biotechnology industry. Design goals that the FDA hopes to accomplish in its proposed biotechnology policy are listed, as are the biotechnology-related issues the FDA believes will be the most difficult to sort out. The FDA's role in risk assessment of these products and technologies is also addressed.
