Zusammenfassung: | Basic data and procedures used to calculate structural loads due to engine surge on the YF-16 prototype fighter are presented. The procedure is based on a correlation of transient-pressure vs engine-compressor pressure ratio and relies heavily on extensive flight-measured transient-pressure data from engine-surge events on F-111 aircraft equipped with Pratt and Whitney TF30 family engines. These data were supplemented and confirmed by theoretical calculations for the YF-16 and by test-cell measurements of transient-pressure data from engine-surge events on the Pratt and Whitney F100-PW-100 engine, which is used in the YF-16. |
