Army Special Operations Forces and the 'Pacific Century'

With the end of the Cold War, and the rapidly increasing importance of Pacific Rim countries to U.S. national and economic security, the role of U.S. Army special-operations forces (ARSOF) in the area has taken on greater significance. Current U.S. concerns for that region are addressed. Doctrinal, emerging and future missions in which ARSOF currently or may contribute are discussed. Constraints on ARSOF's ability to participate in these missions are also assessed.
