High−field electron emission from oxide−metal composite materials

High−field electron emission from unidirectionally solidified oxide−metal composites has been experimentally evaluated. Multipin arrays with pin diameters of 0.2−1.0 μm and pin densities of (5−50) ×106/cm2 were produced in UO2−W, ZrO2−W, and Gd2O3−Mo systems. Macroscopic current densities in excess...

Zusammenfassung:High−field electron emission from unidirectionally solidified oxide−metal composites has been experimentally evaluated. Multipin arrays with pin diameters of 0.2−1.0 μm and pin densities of (5−50) ×106/cm2 were produced in UO2−W, ZrO2−W, and Gd2O3−Mo systems. Macroscopic current densities in excess of 100 mA/cm2 were routinely obtained and the observed emitter lifetime was in excess of 2000 h.
