LA's Museum for Nobody

Wagner discusses the design of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. The original plan for the museum as released by Swiss architect Peter Zumthor was mean to resemble an inkblot. But in subsequent revisions. the dramatic, inky color of Zumthor's original design became a flat biege and a wing that was supposed to meander over the La Brea tar pits was moved to an adjacent parking lot. The latest renderings show a shorter and smaller building than before in which people have compared it to a coffee table and an Italian restaurant. To compensate the room needed for its collection, the museum is considering buildings LACMA satellites throughout the city.
