Nature in Icelandic poetry.(World Views: New Writing About Nature)

Icelandic poetry often depicts nature as a force both aiding and overwhelming mankind. Nature has been a dominant theme in Icelandic poetry since the 19th century. The reasons for the popularity of poetry in Iceland, including nature poetry, remain obscure, although it is clearly an old tradition and may be the legacy of the Celtic predecessors of modern Icelanders.
