Zusammenfassung: | Citizens in a democracy carry the heavy responsibility of prompting action against the danger of global warming early enough to head off the most dangerous consequences. Global warming is particularly insidious because, unlike some environmental ills, it does not manifest itself in ways that are plainly obvious to policymakers or the public. Global warming is caused by actions, so it can be mitigated by actions. A roadmap is presented on how to do this: it begins by describing the state of the policy debate today, then shows how adjusting intellectual boundaries will give access to a great, untapped well of human ingenuity that is available to address this problem in time to make a difference. It concludes with some thoughts on what will define the leadership necessary to bring about needed action at this important time. |
