Zusammenfassung: | Agnes Nemes Nagy wrote poetry in Hungary from the 1950s until her death from cancer in Oct 1991. All of her poetry carries a subversive undercurrent because of the conditions existing in communist Hungary. Nemes Nagy's work is political in a way that poets living in the US cannot hope to achieve because the brilliance created by the repression she endured does not exist in the US. Nemes Nagy's intellectuality was at odds with the peasant mentality that the communist regime promoted, but she was a Hungarian patriot her entire life. |
