The American Civil Liberties Union: one step too far, too often

It does not seem all that long ago when the name American Civil Liberties Union conjured up visions of great causes and firm commitments, visions of unsung heroes doing battle with McCarthyites to preserve the essence of the First Amendment, the freedom to speak. Hardly a law student of old could say he did not have some degree of admiration for an organization that held out to him the prospect of being a giant-slayer.
