Invasive Beauty

Deming presents an essay about invasive beauty. Some people want to get rid of the invasive beauty, whose blooming is an ecstasy of blue, the tiniest sliver of the lupines year. Largely the lupine's days are about endurance through cold, wind, snow, and months of unmitigated darkness in the far north. Then comes the bloom, abundance drowning out privation. The author quoted Emerson who wrote that beauty is the form under which the intellect prefers to study the world. She added that beauty is not truth. Beauty can subvert truth. The tourist visiting the seaside town finds the harbor seal a thing of beauty.
