Stimulated emission in multiply doped Ho 3+ :YLF and YAG - A comparison

Zusammenfassung:A comparison of room-temperature normal mode laser properties has been carried out for the Ho(3+) 2-micron laser in YAG and YLF. Of the two hosts, alpha-beta-YLF appears to be more favorable for pulsed operation because of its very high slope efficiency, low threshold, high resistance to UV and laser-induced damage, and long lifetime providing for high-energy storage in efficient Q-switched operation. The latter property made possible Q-switched outputs of approximately double the normal mode slope efficiency.
