On the effects of large-scale temperature advection in the Martian atmosphere

A theoretical model in which large-scale topography can generate steady winds is analyzed. The wind is determined by the radiative-equilibrium thermal structure, but gradient-level winds are affected to lowest order by the small temperature anomalies induced by large-scale temperature advection. The...

Zusammenfassung:A theoretical model in which large-scale topography can generate steady winds is analyzed. The wind is determined by the radiative-equilibrium thermal structure, but gradient-level winds are affected to lowest order by the small temperature anomalies induced by large-scale temperature advection. The application of the model to the Martian general circulation is discussed and examples in which Martian parameters are used are presented and analyzed.
