Voting for Our Lives

An Oregon lesbian relates her campaign against Oregon's Measure 9, which sought to declare homosexuality unlawful according to Oregon's constitution. Most of the author's friends fought against the measure, but many other citizens did not campaign against the measure out of fear of reprisals. The author credits the gay and lesbian community that developed during the 1970s and 1980s with helping her rise above society's bigotry and her own anger and confusion.
