Zusammenfassung:The midlatitude trough is a dynamical phenomenon influencing significantly the COST 251 area. The main ionospheric trough is a complex phenomenon and very difficult to describe using a single formula. However, modelled ionospheric parameters as considered in the COST 251 Action, are critically dependent on its location, magnitude and dynamical changes during geomagnetic disturbances. The analysis of this influence on the constructed COST 251 model and its occurrence in long-term maps, as well as in instantaneous models, are presented.
