Zusammenfassung:Background. Chlorine dioxide is a pungent, reddish-yellow gas which must be generated at the point of use because of its short life and chemical instability. Chlorine dioxide is produced primarily by reacting chlorine gas with sodium chlorite in solution or solid form. It can also be produced by reacting sulfuric acid with potassium chlorate. Chlorine dioxide is an effective disinfectant against waterborne microbes including Cryptosporidium.
