Confluence of disparate carbido chemistries: [WRuAu(μ-C)Cl(CO)(PCy)(Tp)]

The reaction of [Ru(CAuCl)Cl 2 (PCy 3 ) 2 ] with [W(&z.tbd;CSn n Bu 3 )(CO) 2 (Tp*)] (obtained from [W(&z.tbd;CBr)(CO) 2 (Tp*)], n BuLi and ClSn n Bu 3 ) affords the heterotetrametallic bis(carbido) complex [WRuAu 2 (μ-C) 2 Cl 3 (CO) 2 (PCy 3 ) 2 (Tp*)] in which the two distinct μ-carbido ligands adopt linear and T-shaped geometry at carbon. The reaction of [Ru(CAuCl)Cl 2 (PCy 3 ) 2 ] with [W(&z.tbd;CSn n Bu 3 )(CO) 2 (Tp*)] (obtained from [W(&z.tbd;CBr)(CO) 2 (Tp*)], n BuLi and ClSn n Bu 3 ) affords the heterotetrametallic bis(carbido) complex [WRuAu 2 (μ-C) 2 Cl 3 (CO) 2 (PCy 3 ) 2 (Tp*)] in which the two distinct μ-carbido ligands adopt linear and T-shaped geometry at carbon.
