Alcohol use in Britain: How much is too much?

Alcohol is a part of everyday life in Britain, its use so diverse that it cannot be regarded as a neutral substance. Its benefits and the problems it presents are assessed, and a case is made for the development of a coherent public health policy to reduce per capita consumption.
