Zusammenfassung:: Adenovirus (ADV) infection is a serious complication after hematopoietic stem cell transplantation with significant morbidity and mortality. Cidofovir has emerged as the primary therapy for ADV infection, but its use has been limited by concerns of nephrotoxicity. We report the safety and tolerability of 234 cidofovir infusions in 23 patients at a single institution, and demonstrate evidence of acceptable nephrotoxicity despite concomitant use of other nephrotoxic agents. Three patients suffered adverse events, two related to the hydration regimen associated with cidofovir administration. We conclude that cidofovir is a safe and mostly well tolerated drug in a high‐risk pediatric population.
