Zusammenfassung: | Welsh et all provides an update about an interesting project in Divis, Belfast, Ireland. Small-scale research excavations were being carried out at two sites in Divis from June 12 to 23, 2017. These were a stone circular enclosure recorded as Cashel. The excavations were part of a bigger project that is managed by the Belfast Hills Partnership, funded by the Big Lottery Funds and supported by the Department for Communities. Professional archaeologists from the Centre for Archaeological Fieldwork (CAF) at Queen's University Belfast (QUB), and a wide range of schools and community groups took part in the project which is the excavation at the circular stone enclosure and at the burial cairn. There is no medieval activity indicated at the site, but the stratification and artefactual evidence suggest a substantial Neolithic presence. |
