P25: Protective effect of probiotics enriched diet and tri-herbal dip treatment on haematological and biochemical profiles of goldfish, Carassius auratus and common carp, Cyprinus carpio artificially infected with Aeromonas hydrophila

The present work was carried out the restorative effect of mixed probiotics enriched food along with tri-herbal dip treatment. Goldfish, Carassius auratus (10±2 g) and the common carp, Cyprinus carpio (20±2 g) were inoculated intramuscularly with A. hydrophila (1.8×10 3 or 2.3×10 3 cfu/ml). On the 6th day when the clinical signs of infection manifested the infected fish were divided into six groups: Group I (control: uninfected-normal), Group II (infected-untreated and fed with standard diet), Group III (infected-dip treated with herbal extract and fed with standard diet), Group IV (infected-treated and fed with diet enriched with Lactobacillus sp. along with dip treatment), Group V (infected-treated fish fed with Sporolac sp enriched diet) and Group VI (infected-dip treated with herbal extract fish fed with both Lactobacillus sp. and Sporolac sp. enriched diet). The herbal dip treatment in water (mg/ml) began on the 6th day of infection and lasted for 5 min/d for 24 days. In all the experimental groups the changes in haematological such as white blood cell count (WBC), red blood cell count (RBC), haemoglobin (Hb), haematocrit (Hct) and derived erythrocytes like mean corpuscular volume (MCV) and mean corpuscular haemoglobin (MCH), mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration (MCHC) and biochemical profiles total protein (TP), glucose (GLU) and cholesterol (CHO) were studied on 1st, 12th and 24th day. In Group II the MCHC, TP of common carp and MCHC of goldfish did not differ ( P>0.05) from 1st to 24th day when compared to Group I; all the other parameters varied ( P0.05) from 1st to 24th day but in goldfish these values differed significantly ( P0.05). In Group VI of both species except RBC, Hct, MCV and MCH which decreased significantly ( P0.05). Our results show that formulated diet enriched with both probiotics when coupled with tri-herbal dip treatment speeded up the recovery of ulcerative dermatitis induced by Aeromonas hydrophila in Cyprinus carpio and Caras
