Parapteronotus bonapartii (Castelnau, 1855), is synonymized to Parapteronotus hasemani (Ellis, 1913), on the basis of head and body skin covered with numerous fine dark dots, a fleshy projection antero-laterally on upper lip, and adult males with elongated snout.
