Zusammenfassung:B-A translocations for maize (Zea mays L.) were used in conjunction with a single-kernel, sugar analysis technique to determine which chromosome arm contains the sugary enhancer(se) gene in sugary-1 (su-1) sweet corn. A set of starchy (Su Se) B-A translocation stocks were backcrossed into a su-1 Se background. These su-1 Se B-A translocation stocks were testcrossed with a su-1 se inbred IL677a. A deficiency on the long arm of chromosome 4 allowed expression of the se gene in a hemizygous condition. Expression of the se gene was based on high levels of sucrose and light-yellow kernel color
