Molecular Topology: Easy Self-Assembly of an Organometallic Doubly Braided [2]Catenane

Molecular tailoring through the judicious choice of hinge group has enabled the synthesis of a family of topologically related structures, among which is the first structurally characterized doubly braided catenane (see picture), a compound that undergoes an easy molecular switching motion.
