Sumer precipitation in Central-West Argentina and the interanual phenomena El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO), and interdecadal ENSO like variability
Most of the interanual-to-multidecadal variability of the South American precipitation is attributed to the variability of the equatorial Pacific basin. The link between both is established through either 2-to-6-year El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) or the interdecadal El Nino-like variability (D...

Zusammenfassung: | Most of the interanual-to-multidecadal variability of the South American precipitation is attributed to the variability of the equatorial Pacific basin. The link between both is established through either 2-to-6-year El Nino/Southern Oscillation (ENSO) or the interdecadal El Nino-like variability (Diaz et al. 1998, Grimm et al. 2000, Grimm 2003, amongst other). Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between the interanual-to-multidecadal variability of the summer precipitation in Central-West Argentina, in South America, and both oceanic low-frequency processes. Results show that both at interanual scales (ENSO) and at lower scales (ENSO-like) there no exists link between the sea surface temperature in the equatorial Pacific and precipitation. Only the areas closer to the Southern American continent over the South Atlantic and South Pacific seem to be physically linked via atmospheric circulation. The southwestern South Atlantic has the highest explained variance. |
