Fungal cytoskeleton dysfunction or immune activation triggered by β‐glucan synthase inhibitors

The current discussion provides a brief overview of several possible ways echinocandins may induce fungal damage from which fungi may not readily recover, even after the drug concentration falls to below sublethal levels. This may provide a basis for clinical trials exploring intermittent high‐dose echinocandin therapy.
