These included enhanced confidence, self-awareness, interpersonal and teaching skills, team-working and leadership – factors also associated with emotional intelligence. Students developed an appreciation of the accountability of the mentor including making practice assessment decisions. They stated that the learning achieved had aided their professional development and enhanced employability. this module equips students with skills for their future role in facilitating learners and contributes to development of a ‘professional persona’, enhancing their transition to qualified midwives. The Peer Mentoring Model would be easily adapted to other programmes and professional contexts.
