Zusammenfassung:Radiolabeled sodium chloride was used to follow the formation of PCDDs and PCDFs from residual carbon on municipal solid-waste incinerator flyash. Addition of the radiolabeled salt allowed measurement of the competition between the various Cl sources. The reaction mixtures consisted of flyash or aqueous-extracted flyash and glass beads. The additions included natural NaCl, radiolabeled NaCl, and/or copper chloride. Results showed that radiolabeled NaCl was a relatively poor Cl source. The direct transfer of super(37)Cl from CuCl sub(2) to C and PCDD/F appeared to be much faster than the transfer from Na super(37)Cl via a metal chloride. The exchange of Cl between Cu and C was fast relative to that between Na and Cu. The data suggested that native Cl remaining in the flyash and Cl in residual C could be incorporated into PCDD/F.
