On the Trail of Elemental Matter

Experiments are under way to study quark-gluon plasma, which is matter in an elemental state, in which neither atoms nor nuclei nor protons nor neutrons are present. Quark-gluon plasma is made of quarks and the particles called gluons, which contain the forces that quarks exert on each other.
