Organized by the Close Up Foundation and C-SPAN, the programs, examining the Cold War, the maintenance of peace today, and environmental challenges, are aimed chiefly at high school students. Among the first speakers were Prime Minister Constantine Simitis of Greece, Ambassador Raymond Chretien of Canada; and General Barry R. McCaffrey, director of the White House Office of National Drug Control Policy. The senior State Department official working on environmental policy came seeking help in thinking about the critical environmental challenges of the next quarter-century.
