Zusammenfassung: | 2 Of topical interest, “Cataract Surgery from 1918 to the Present and Future-Just Imagine!” a perspective by editorial board member Randall J. Olson, chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences at the John A. Moran Eye Center of the University of Utah, offers a glimpse into a potential brave new world of defining surgical procedure.3 For a better understanding of state-of-the-art cataract surgery 74 years ago, review Kenneth Roper's “Lancaster's techniques of cataract extraction.”In his editorial, “The Best and the Brightest,” Robert Folberg, founding dean of the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, challenges our profession to consider how we promote and model core physician attitudes and values that will distinguish truly outstanding future ophthalmologists.5 Additionally this year, previously published articles, widely hailed as landmark documents, will be reprinted in their entirety. The author attests that he meets the current ICMJE criteria for authorship. 1 F.W.
