Zusammenfassung:	Highlights • The study evaluates the renal function and risk factors for retinopathy in Type 2 DM people. • Urine albumin/creatinine ratio is found to be an important risk factor for the development of retinopathy. • Fasting urine albumin/creatinine ratio ≥ 1.45 mg/mmol-1 l-1 was the optimal cut-off value for retinopathy in this study participants and thus urine albumin creating ratio can be used as an important biomarker for retinopathy.
