Zusammenfassung: | Highlights • Seven-year review of microbiologic data of surgical site infections (SSIs) at a cancer referral hospital in Mexico. • The frequency of SSI was 7.9%, similar to other reports in patients with cancer. • In contrast with other studies from developed countries, gram-negative bacteria were the most frequent isolates. • There was an increasing trend in extended-spectrum β-lactamase Escherichia coli ; conversely, Staphylococcus aureus decreased over time. • Other multidrug-resistant bacteria, such as vancomycin-resistant enterococci, emerged as causative pathogens of SSIs. |
