What can gait tell us about dementia? Review of epidemiological and neuropsychological evidence

Highlights • Cognitive and gait disorders are common; they are linked to poor outcomes and high cost. • Research shows that these two geriatric syndromes are closely related. • Gait changes are observed in MCI, as well as in early AD. • An integrated approach for evaluating gait and cognition may aid diagnosis and prognosis. • The close relationship between gait and cognition can be used for the development of new interventions.
