Zusammenfassung:Highlights • Hungarostudy reported a prevalence of self-reported diabetes of 6.2% in 2002. • Our survey shows a prevalence of self-reported diabetes of 11.7% (95%CI 9.7–13.6%). • The increase in prevalence was only modestly explained by population ageing. • The largest increase (doubling) was found in the 55–64 years age group. • We report an alarmingly increasing prevalence of self-reported diabetes in Hungary.
