The Vinylogous Aldol Reaction:  A Valuable, Yet Understated Carbon−Carbon Bond-Forming Maneuver

Relevant applications of the vinylogous aldol reaction in synthesis and in natural product chemistry are highlighted. Mannich-type reactions, basically isosteric modifications of the aldol theme, are included.
