Charmonium production in photon-photon collisions

We have searched for the two-photon production of the eta/sub c/, chi/sub 0/, and chi/sub 2/ charmonium states at the SLAC e/sup +/e/sup -/ collider PEP in the channels ..gamma gamma -->..K/sup +- /K/sub S//sup 0/..pi../sup minus-or-plus/, ..gamma gamma -->..K/sup +/K/sup -/..pi../sup +/..pi.....

Zusammenfassung:We have searched for the two-photon production of the eta/sub c/, chi/sub 0/, and chi/sub 2/ charmonium states at the SLAC e/sup +/e/sup -/ collider PEP in the channels ..gamma gamma -->..K/sup +- /K/sub S//sup 0/..pi../sup minus-or-plus/, ..gamma gamma -->..K/sup +/K/sup -/..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/, ..gamma gamma --> pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/..pi../sup +/..pi../sup -/, and ..gamma gamma -->..K/sup +/K/sup -/K/sup +/K/sup -/. We identify four eta/sub c/ candidates in the K/sup +/K/sup -/K/sup +/K/sup -/ channel on a negligible background; the one phiphi event among them implies a 95%-confidence-level lower limit for GAMMA/sub ..gamma..//sub ..gamma../(eta/sub c/) of 1.7 keV. In the other channels we find no evidence for any of the three states. We establish 95%-C.L. upper limits GAMMA/sub ..gamma..//sub ..gamma../(eta/sub c/)
