High angular momentum components in the subbarrier fusion of heavy ions

The fusion of /sup 80/Se+ /sup 80/Se has been studied near and just below the Coulomb barrier. High angular momentum components were observed by measurement of ..gamma..-ray multiplicity distributions for the decay of the evaporation residues.
