Studies on technique for high yield of hard shell clam in intensive culture

The low-tidal and mid-tidal zone within an enclosure culture area was divided into six small experimental regions to make a contrast experiment on cultivating hard shell clam (Meretrix meretrix) with different seed size and density. The experimental total area was 60 mu. After two years' cultivation, the total output of 148934 kg was harvested with the output price of 191 million yuan, including net profit of 1.64 million yuan. The experimental result showed the growth and survival rate of the hard shell clam in the low tidal zone were better than those in the mid-tidal zone; the hard shell clam grew better in low density; the optimum density for cultivating hard shell clam was 113-163 ind/m super(2).
