[...]my third interest is borne of the sense of urgency that I and many others feel about the state of the world in which we live. There is much to be said on behalf of intellectual modesty, but it might be argued that such an approach risks furthering the very problems that historians need to address - problems that include the legacy of Eurocentrism and acceptance of 'nature' and 'society' as ahistorical and essentially distinct categories.
