Understand the multiple reduction mammaplasty techniques available for patients and describe the advantages and disadvantages associated with each. 2. Describe the indications for the treatment of macromastia in patients younger than 18 years. 3. Identify the preoperative indications for breast imaging before surgery. 4. Describe the benefits of breast infiltration with local anesthesia with epinephrine before surgery. 5. Understand the use of deep venous thrombosis prophylaxis in breast reduction surgery. 6. Describe when the use of drains is indicated after breast reduction surgery.
The goal of this Continuing Medical Education module is to summarize key evidence-based data available to plastic surgeons to improve their care of patients with breast hypertrophy. The authors' goal is to present the current controversies regarding their treatment and provide a discussion of the various options in their care. The article was prepared to accompany practice-based assessment with ongoing surgical education for the Maintenance of Certification Program of the American Board of Plastic Surgery. |
