(Medicine): A 50-year-old man was admitted to this hospital because of elevated levels of serum aminotransferases, hyperbilirubinemia, anemia, and acute kidney injury.
The patient had been well until 6 days before admission, when fatigue and malaise developed. The next day, he had multiple episodes of nonbloody, nonbilious vomiting, accompanied by abdominal distention and diffuse abdominal pain. He felt feverish, but his temperature was 35.5°C. He took an unknown nonprescription medication for pain and one dose of ciprofloxacin that was provided by a family member. Three days before admission, his family noted yellowing of . . . |
