NK cell effector functions in a Chédiak-Higashi patient undergoing cord blood transplantation: effects of in vitro treatment with IL-2

Highlights • NK cell functions in Chédiak-Higashi Syndrome (CHS) are strongly affected. • Restoration of NK cell activities might represent a therapeutic strategy for these patients. • Herein we describe the effector functions of NK cells obtained from a CHS patient receiving umbilical cord blood (U...

Zusammenfassung:Highlights • NK cell functions in Chédiak-Higashi Syndrome (CHS) are strongly affected. • Restoration of NK cell activities might represent a therapeutic strategy for these patients. • Herein we describe the effector functions of NK cells obtained from a CHS patient receiving umbilical cord blood (UCB) transplantation. • The in vitro use of IL-2 showed that it is possible to restore the defective NK cell functions. • Giant perforin-containing granules appeared smaller and redistributed upon IL-2 treatment.
