Zusammenfassung:The Big Bend gambusia is a federally endangered freshwater fish species limited to spring pool refugia and drainage ditches in Big Bend National Park, TX. Morphological features, geographical distribution, abundance, habitat, ecology, and known reproduction characteristics are summarized. About 50 yr ago, this species experienced an extreme genetic bottleneck, with limited availability of warm spring waters, park campground development, and loss of natural habitat. A recovery plan has been prepared by the FWS.
